Podcast: The Winners and Losers Radio Program -- Combatting Human Trafficking

This episode of the Winners and Losers Radio Program was broadcast Wednesday, November 15, 2017 on EnlightenRadio.org from the Red Caboose Studio in Bolivar, West Virginia. Our email is host@enlightenradio.org.

The show is hosted by John Case and Gayle Becker, and airs on most Wednesdays at 7:30 AM. This show features Rita Nieman and Penny Kay Hoeflinger. Here are Gayle's notes:

It's the brutal and sometimes deadly trafficking of human beings, most exploited for sex and labor -- what some activists call "modern-day slavery." We'll speak with two seemingly very committed people fighting it in the Eastern Panhandle and other parts of West Virginia -- Rita Nieman, of the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, in Shepherdstown, and Penny Kay Hoeflinger, founder of an organization that runs a site where young people "can heal from the trauma they endured while at the hands of a trafficker." They're
reaching out to the young being trafficked in schools as well as to adults. Among the latest projects: a recent teach-in at Shepherd University and the proposed funding and training of some 70 emergency phone counselors for use throughout West Virginia. It'll hopefully result in more effective participation by the state in a hot line run by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center.
